As the month of January comes to a close have we managed to stick to what the last year taught us? I became aware of how precious life is and how much more energy we should be giving to the things and people that really matter.

Reflecting on the last year really opened my eyes to the importance of rest. Not just having a good nights sleep, but rather taking a real break from the world. Stepping away from social media, work & even technology is really important, it gives you a chance to step away from the stress of these immediate responsibilities, whether they be work/school related or the social pressures we put on ourselves.

I committed taking some time off over the festive season at the end of 2016. Taking time out for myself gave me time to really recharge. I had days of waking up naturally to beautiful mornings, coffees, breakfasts and beach walks with the family. Having a nap in the afternoon, Cape Town sun & real time to connect with people who are important in my life...& all without the constant buzz of my phone.

Sure there are some things that may have needed attention & I made sure that I did 30mins of admin each day to stay on top of emails and messages. But the beauty was that I had the rest of the day free.

Now, I feel fresh and truly rested and ready to take on the new year.

My tip for 2017, take 1 moment each day & 1 day each week to PAUSE! 1 moment of you time, whether it be a yoga/Pilates class, reading 1 chapter of a book, a walk under the trees, 5 mins with your feet up against the wall, or even just a little tea time treat (healthy of course;-).

Then take 1 full day where you commit to staying off social media and focus on being present in the time you have with your family and friends.

It is wonderful how peaceful you will feel.
